2nd Annual Multi-County Soil Health Meeting to Take Place February 15
Several Soil & Water Conservation Districts in the mid-Ohio area are once again joining forces to host a soil health meeting about erosion and cover crop systems on farms. The meeting will be Wednesday, February 15 from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Loudonville High School cafeteria. Dinner will be provided at no cost to attendees.
The agenda includes information about cover crop systems at Ayers Farm, presented by Dairyman Carl Ayers and certified crop advisor Mike Snyder. Holmes SWCD program Assistant Dean Slates will present an overview about fertilizer certification, including who needs it and when, to be in compliance with fertilizer and applicator rules. Rounding out the agenda will be Dr. Christopher Winslow, Associate Director of OSU’s Stone Laboratory. Dr. Winslow will give a Lake Erie research perspective on harmful algal blooms and recommended practices to minimize nutrient runoff. While his research is focused on Lake Erie, these principles are important to statewide water quality issues.
