Trevor Berger, Program Administrator

Trevor Berger, Program Administrator

Trevor joined Homes SWCD in 2021 and is now responsible for managing day to day activities, coordination with County, State and Federal partners, but most importantly assisting the residents, farmers and landowners of Holmes County with conservation practices. His passion is technical assistance through evaluation, planning and design. Trevor graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Holmes County has been home, even if not by address, for many years. If you’ve been around the Holmes County Fair you’ve probably seen him or his family working with livestock programs and the Jr. Fair Auction. Karen Gotter, Watershed Coordinator for Killbuck Creek

Karen started at Holmes SWCD in 2016. As watershed coordinator, she connects partners together to improve the water quality of Killbuck Creek. She works behind the scenes to write grants and find opportunities to conserve sensitive areas, as well as promote fencing, pollinator plantings, and cover crops. Darby Sherman, Conservation Specialist

Darby Sherman grew up in Ottawa County and attended The Ohio State University where she earned a bachelors degree in Natural Resource Management with a minor in Soil Science. She has prior experience with NRCS before joining Holmes SWCD in 2022 as a Conservation Specialist. Darby is looking forward to working with producers on district programs and educating community members, especially on soil health. Josh Britton, District Conservationist, USDA-NRCS

Josh Britton, District Conservationist, USDA-NRCS

Josh grew up in rural Logan County, Ohio. He attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) where he graduated with a BS in Biology. After graduating, Josh continued his studies at Taylor University (TU) in Indiana, obtaining his Masters of Environmental Science. During his time at Taylor, Josh’s thesis examined the spread of insects used to control the invasive wetland plant, purple loosestrife. Additionally, he has worked as a Teaching Assistant at both MVNU and TU, interned with the Ohio EPA on an electro-fishing crew, guided tours at The Wilds, and volunteered with The Nature Conservancy. Josh worked for the Soil and Water Conservation District in Carroll and Harrison Counties from 2014-2018 when he joined NRCS as a Soil Conservationist serving Ashland, Richland, Columbiana, and Mahoning counties. JACOB LOTZ, SOIL CONSERVATIONIST, USDA-NRCS

JACOB LOTZ, SOIL CONSERVATIONIST, USDA-NRCS

Jacob is Knox County born and raised. He attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) where he graduated with a BS in Environmental Biology. As a certified conservation planner, Jacob spends many hours assisting producers with evaluation of their operations and implementation of conservation practices. His passions for grazing and hay are only outweighed by tractors and ice cream. Jacob joined NRCS as a Soil Conservationist serving Knox, Guernsey, Noble, Belmont, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Coshocton and now Holmes counties.
